O V Vijayan’s novel ‘Khasakkinte Itihasam’ will soon be turned into a cinema by ace director Ranjith.

The script of the film is complete. The shoot is expected to start next year.

For Malayalis, memories are thick on the village called Khasak, Ravi who arrives here as the teacher in the only single teacher school, characters he meet, his father, myths and palm groves. A number of articles and books have appeared about this novel but this is for the first time that it is going to be made a cinema.

The cast is yet to be selected. Earlier, directors such as Shyama Prasad, Lijo Jose, Pallissery and Sunny Jose had tried in vain to do a film, based on the novel.

Meanwhile, Ranjith is involved in the production work of film Bilathikatha. The shoot will start on October end. Niranjan and Anu Sithara will appear in important roles, while Mammootty will make guest appearance.
