THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Attingal police have commenced further investigation into the murder of a youth who was allegedly stabbed to death in Nagaroor a day ago.

Sivadutt, 22, of Thenneekonam, near Nagaroor, was allegedly stabbed to death at Nagaroor, near Attingal, by around 1.30 am on Sunday.

It took place in the midst of preparations for an Onam celebration that was planned to be held in the locality on Sunday.

Thirty-year-old Ajeesh was arrested soon after the incident.

According to the police, Ajeesh was brought to the scene of the crime on Monday as part of the collection of evidence in the case. Sivadutt was allegedly stabbed by Ajeesh after both were engaged in a heated argument, which soon went out of control.

Another person, Rahul, who stood nearby, also sustained injuries after being attacked.

Pointing out that both Sivadutt and Ajeesh were close friends and had no enmity among themselves, the police said the incident took place in the heat of the moment while the review of the preparations for the celebration was under way.

Official sources, however, said both were in an inebriated condition.

Despite rushing Sivadutt to a nearby hospital, his life could not be saved.

The accused was remanded in judicial custody after being produced at a local court, sources said.

He was booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
