THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Various hospitals in the district witnessed violent scenes in separate incidents yet again highlighting the occupational dangers faced by staff members of such establishments.

Four persons who were injured in an accident reached the Attukal Devi Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment. However, incensed by the alleged delay in attending to them, they attacked the hospital staff. The hospital staff, in turn, attacked them.

Fort SI Shajimon said one hospital staff member sustained injuries in the melee. The police were yet to register a case.

O Rajagopal, MLA, visited the injured in the attack and demanded immediate arrest of those behind the incident. A statement from the BJP said the hospital claimed to have suffered losses to the tune of Rs 5 lakh.

A hospital in Valiyathura came under attack by unidentified miscreants. The incident took place around 7 p.m. when four persons vandalised the entrance to the hospital. The police suspect the gang to be on the lookout for a patient who had been admitted to the hospital earlier after being injured in a clash near the Valiyathura pier.

With the hospital authorities having submitted a complaint, the Valiyathura police have launched efforts to identify those behind the incident.

The Neyyattinkara police registered a case against Vinod, 35, of Kodungavu, who had gone to the Neyyattinkara General Hospital with minor injuries after his vehicle had overturned. He soon entered into an argument with the guard and began to allegedly assault him. The hospital employee had to be hospitalised after sustaining injuries.
